Creative Art & Clay Workshops for Disability Day Services
Bringing Creativity, Connection & Fun to Everyone!
At ClayFun Art Studio, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to enjoy being creative, regardless of their abilities or the level of support they require.
Based in Tiernaboul, Killarney, Co. Kerry, we offer enjoyable, hands-on clay-making and painting workshops for adults attending disability day services, including individuals with intellectual disabilities and additional support needs.
With years of experience welcoming groups from St John of God services and providing creative workshops within Kerry Parents & Friends day centres, we understand that every group is different.
Some participants enjoy following demonstrations and creating their own projects, while others need additional assistance from their support workers.
Whatever the level of ability, our aim is always the same: to provide a fun, welcoming creative experience where everyone can participate in a way that suits them.
And the best part?
You can come to us, or we can come to you!
Your Centre or Our Studio — The Choice Is Yours!
We know that organising outings and activities can be different for every day service.
That’s why we offer two flexible options.
Come to Us — Visit ClayFun Art Studio
Looking for something different for your group to enjoy?
Bring your participants to our creative studio in Tiernaboul, Killarney, for a hands-on clay-making and painting experience.
We provide the materials, demonstrations and creative guidance, while accompanying support staff assist participants who require additional help.
Studio visits are a lovely opportunity for groups to enjoy an outing, try something creative and take home something they’ve made.
Please note: Our studio is a seasonal creative workspace rather than a conventional heated building. During the coldest winter months, generally January through March, studio workshops are unavailable for everyone’s comfort.
Studio visits resume when temperatures become suitable, usually in spring.
We Come to You — Mobile Creative Workshops
Would you prefer to enjoy the workshop in the comfort of your own day centre?
No problem!
We can bring the ClayFun creative experience directly to you.
Robin arrives with the materials, a planned creative activity and step-by-step guidance, allowing participants to enjoy making and painting without needing to travel.
This option is particularly suitable for groups who benefit from familiar surroundings, require additional support or simply prefer activities at their own centre.
Mobile workshops are available throughout the year, including during the colder winter months when our studio is closed.
Creative Workshops for Different Abilities
At ClayFun, we don’t expect everyone to work at the same pace or complete projects in the same way.
We adapt our activities according to the interests, abilities and support needs of each group.
Guided Creative Workshops
For participants who enjoy working more independently, we offer structured clay-making and painting projects with step-by-step demonstrations.
Robin guides the group through each stage, encouraging participants to make their own choices, experiment with colours and personalise their creations.
These workshops are ideal for participants who enjoy following instructions and making their own projects with a little guidance along the way.
Supported Creative Workshops
For participants who require more assistance, we offer simpler, supported creative activities where carers and support workers work alongside them.
Some participants may enjoy choosing colours, exploring textures, painting a small section of a figure or helping with individual steps of a clay project.
Others may need their support worker to complete much of the practical work with them.
For participants with shorter attention spans, we often aim for approximately 20–30 minutes of active engagement, or whatever feels comfortable for the individual.
There is no pressure to complete a project independently.
The focus is on enjoyment, participation and having a positive creative experience.
Support workers and carers must remain present and actively assist participants who require additional help throughout the workshop.
Robin provides the creative instruction, demonstrations and materials, while familiar support staff provide the individual assistance and care their participants need.
And from experience, we know the support workers often enjoy getting creative just as much as the participants — sometimes there’s even a little friendly competition over who makes the best creation!
Our Creative Workshop Options
Every day service has different attendance patterns and interests, so we offer several ways to enjoy ClayFun workshops.
One-Visit Creative Workshops
Perfect for groups who bring different participants each time or are looking for a one-off creative outing.
During a typical workshop, participants enjoy making a simple creation using air-dry clay and painting one of our popular Paint Me figures.
The figures can be taken home on the day, along with the clay creations, which will need time to dry before painting.
Alternatively, clay projects can be left at the day centre to dry.
These workshops are particularly suitable for groups who visit our studio on a monthly basis with different participants.
Ongoing Creative Workshops — Projects That Grow With Each Visit
For centres who enjoy regular creative activities with the same group, we can plan projects that continue over several visits.
During one workshop, participants might create something using air-dry clay. Robin can then take the pieces back to the studio to dry before returning them at the next session for painting, decorating or assembly.
Alternatively, the creations can remain at the day centre to dry, whichever arrangement works best.
Over the years, our projects have included:
Dreamcatcher Wall Decorations: Creating decorative pieces, then painting and assembling them during a later visit.
Personalised Picture Frames: Making individual frames from clay and returning to paint and decorate them.
Seasonal Clay Creations: Making decorations and figures that can be finished during a later workshop.
Paint Me Figures: Painting ready-made figures, decorations and ornaments that participants can enjoy taking home.
We often include an additional painting activity during the first visit so that everyone has something they can enjoy and take away while their clay projects are drying.
This approach gives participants something to look forward to, as they get to see their creations develop and eventually complete their projects.
Special Seasonal Workshop Programmes
We also offer themed workshop programmes for Christmas, Easter, Halloween and other special occasions.
For groups who enjoy more involved projects, we can arrange several workshops over consecutive weeks.
For example, a Christmas programme might include:
First Visit: Making festive clay gnomes.
Second Visit: Creating Christmas reindeer or other seasonal decorations.
Third Visit: Painting and decorating the dried clay creations, along with additional Paint Me Christmas tree decorations.
These programmes are a lovely way to build excitement around special occasions.
Participants can also create personalised decorations and small handmade gifts for their family and friends.
Keeping the Creative Experience Special
Through years of working with day services, we’ve found that regular workshops are often most enjoyable when they’re something participants can look forward to rather than an activity they do every week.
For this reason, we generally recommend spacing ongoing workshops approximately 4–6 weeks apart.
This helps keep each visit feeling like a special treat, gives participants something to anticipate and allows time for clay projects to dry between sessions.
However, every group is different.
For seasonal programmes, such as Christmas, several workshops over consecutive weeks can work beautifully.
We’re always happy to discuss a schedule that suits your centre and the people attending.
One-to-One Creative Sessions
We also offer individual creative sessions for adults who prefer a quieter, more personalised experience or benefit from shorter activities.
These sessions generally last approximately 30–40 minutes, depending on the participant’s abilities, interests and attention span.
Activities are adapted to suit the individual, with an emphasis on enjoyment rather than completing a particular amount of work.
One-to-one sessions can take place at our studio during the warmer months or at the participant’s day service by arrangement.
During January, February and March, when our studio is unavailable, we can arrange to bring the creative experience to you instead.
Support workers or carers must remain present where assistance or personal care is required.

Important Information for Day Services
To help ensure everyone has a safe, enjoyable and positive experience, we ask that centres consider the following when booking:
Support Staff: Support workers and carers must remain with participants throughout the workshop and provide any individual assistance or personal care required.
Group Abilities: Please let us know about the general abilities, interests and support requirements of your group so that we can plan a suitable activity.
Workshop Duration: Activities are adapted to participants’ attention spans. Some individuals may enjoy just 20–30 minutes of active participation, while others may prefer a longer creative session.
Clay Drying: We use air-dry clay, which requires time to dry before painting. Creations can be taken home, left at your centre or returned at a later workshop, depending on the arrangements.
Studio Availability: Studio-based workshops are seasonal and generally unavailable from January through March. Mobile workshops continue throughout the year.
Booking Notice: We recommend contacting us at least two weeks in advance, with earlier booking advised for Christmas and other popular seasonal dates.
Group Sizes
At ClayFun Art Studio: We welcome groups of up to 6 participants at a time.
At Your Day Centre: There is no set limit on group size when we bring our workshops to you.
For larger groups, we recommend booking a mobile workshop so everyone can enjoy the creative experience together.
Let’s Get Creative Together!
Whether you’re planning a one-off outing, a regular creative activity, a special Christmas programme or a personalised one-to-one session, we’d love to hear from you.
At ClayFun, we believe the joy of creativity isn’t measured by how perfectly something turns out or how much someone can do independently.
It’s about having the opportunity to participate, explore, make choices and enjoy creating something together.
“Wherever we create together, we’ll bring the creativity, connection and fun!”
